Words With Friends

To put it simply, this have been a little crazy as of late.....Let me give a glimpse of what has been going on in Wayne's World. A dear friend of mine has been diagnosed with cancer. He had surgery to remove the cancer on Thursday. I went up to the Ohio State University Cancer Center today to visit with him. It was a humbling feeling visiting him knowing he was and will continue in pain. The thing about the cancer center is it's two hours away and the visiting hours are one hour every other hour. So timing a visit could be a little tricky. The good news is, things worked out so I could see him.
As a result of the surgery, it was a strain for him to talk more than a few words at a time. So most communication was written.
About ten years ago I was in a similar situation....I had to have open heart surgery and was in the hospital for a week. During my time in the hospital he came to visit with me.
One of the things my friend expressed to me during my visit. That it was not to long ago the rolls were reversed.
Bono was once quoted as saying....."I never liked how the ultimate test of friendship seems to be 'I'd take a bullet for you.' If your near enough to get in front of a bullet, you're close enough to just push them out of the way. Then you guys can run off and get milkshakes or something. Wouldn't you rather here someone say, 'Yea, I'd buy you a milkshake' anyway?
The visit made me realize, the spirit of God is alive and well. The spirit also continues to amaze me in all the things I do not understand.
To have those unspoken words with my friend today assured me that things will be o.k. for the both of us in the end.
